Not quite the Sheraton

Well that was a night to remember - or to try and forget ...

After a few drinks in the hotel lobby, we headed off to the rooms for an early night. Everything is shut in ciudad as darkness falls and people do not walk on the streets.

Ty took first shower, and quickly yelled for help. He had touched the shower head and received quite a nasty electrical shock. Amazingly, the actual shower head is connected to an electrical element inside the shower head itself that runs via a bare wire to the wall as a hot water system. Not only does it do a crap job of heating the water, but it also delivers a hell of a boot. In fact, the picture below shows how the wall behind the shower head has also been burned by past misadventures,

It was my turn in the bathroom next, and within minutes I was also in need of help. As I was showering I cast a glance down at my feet, just in time to see a large scorpion scuttling towards me. I am not known for being particularly fit or energetic, but I managed to find some pace getting out of the shower recess. A tentative swat with a boot only made him cranky, but it was no match for Scorpion vs Blundstone.

Having survived the evenings trauma we lay down for a good nights sleep. This was wrecked about 5am with a shotgun blast from the hotel car park. This got us up and out of bed quick smart, just in time to hear an enormous exchange of hundreds of rounds of gunfire across town with lots of automatic fire and shotgun blasts. We snuck a look out the hotel curtains to see smoke everywhere, and dogs barking non stop. Even Gary had decided that discretion was the better part of valor and decided to bunker down in the hotel room for the duration.

It's now 6am and seems all quiet - time to leave town.

[ Update ]. Apparently all the gunpowder and carry on at the town a few nights ago was something to do with the catholic church. Matthias asked some people and he has told us that the poor people pay the church to do this reasonably regularly? It doesn't seem to make much more sense this way, either...
